Syracuse upsets #18 Florida The Syracuse Orange remained unbeaten moving to 4-0 on the year upsetting the No.18 Florida Gators 89-83. The Orange got double-doubles out of guard Paul Harris with 18 points and 11 rebounds and forward Arinze Onuaku who totaled 13 points and a game high 12 boards. Syracuse got it done with 51% shooting from the field and 8-20 shooting from three point land, including guard Andy Rautins who went 5-10. All-American candidate Nick Calathes had a game high eight assists and 19 points on 7-13 shooting, but it wasn’t enough down the stretch. Alex Tyus for the Gators had a game high 24 points on 11-14 shooting and four rebounds. Syracuse was 16-for-32 in the first half and even better in the second, using a 10-2 run early in the second half to go up 56-44. Florida came close a few times, but couldn't get closer than four. The Gators will look to rebound taking on the UMKC Kangaroos while the Orange will look to stay unbeaten hosting non-conference Virginia on the 28 th.
#8 Notre Dame stomp in-state Indiana Four of Notre Dame’s starters recorded double digit scoring performances in their dominating 88-50 win over Indiana. Tory Jackson was the game’s leading scorer with 21 points on 10-17 shooting. Luke Harangody had 14 points, five rebounds, and five assists, Kyle McAlarney had 18 points on 6-11 from three point land, and Ryan Ayers chipped in 13 points and five rebounds in an all-around balanced showing. The Irish forced 20 Hoosier turnovers and outrebounded them as well by 10, 39-29. The Hoosiers (2-1) shot a season low 1-12 from three point range and only managed 13 free throw attempts. They will look to overcome their sub-par shooting performance when they host Cornell, November 30 th. Cincinnati heads to Vegas for Global Sports Classic after beating Coastal Carolina Deonta Vaughn scored 17 points leading his Cincinnati Bearcats to an 82-56 victory over Coastal Carolina. Cincinnati added to its best start since Bob Huggins was coach with the Monday night victory. The Bearcats are 4-0 for the first time since 2004-05, Huggins' final season before he was ousted. Coastal Carolina (0-4) lost its 31st straight road game against a non-league opponent, a streak that spans five years. The Chanticleers couldn't handle Cincinnati's size advantage or its outside shooting, as the Bearcats went 11-of-23 from behind the 3-point arc. The Bearcats will look to duplicate that dead-eye shooting under the bright lights of the Las Vegas in the third round of the Global Sports Classic, November 28 th against undefeated Florida State.
#2 UConn pulls away from #25 Wisconsin to win Paradise Jam The No. 2 Connecticut Huskies got a game high 20 points from guard Jerome Dyson as they defeated the Badgers from Wisconsin 76-57 on Monday night to win the 2008 Paradise Jam Tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands. UConn shot an impressive 53% against a fundamentally defensive sound team in Bo Ryan, while also being outrebounded, 33-22. Forward Jeff Adrien complimented Dyson with 14 points and nine rebounds while center Hasheem Thabeet went 5-6 from the free throw line finishing with nine points, eight rebounds, and three blocks. The Huskies got to the free throw line 30 times, converting on 21, while also shooting 5-9 for 55.6% from the three point line. Wisconsin (4-1) wasn’t able to shake free from UConn’s on-ball defense leading to 22 turnovers and only 38% shooting. Forward Keaton Nankivil was the Badger’s leading scorer with 11.
