NCAA Tournament Second Round Recap: #6 Marquette vs #3 Missouri

No. 3 Missouri (30-6) 83 No. 6 Marquette (25-10) 79

Key Moment: Missouri's Kim English's two substitute free throws with 5.5 seconds to play broke a 79-79 tie.
High Point Scorers: Missouri -- Leo Lyons 18  Marquette -- Jerel McNeal 30
Analysis: There so many subplots to this game. Marquette guard Dominic James who was thought lost for the season with a broken foot, returned and played 17 minutes. The Golden Eagles rallied from a 16-point deficit. And English replaced the injured J.T. Tiller who was injured on the foul that led to the free throws. NCAA rules allow a team to substitute for an injured player. Give Marquette a lot of credit for coming back because they looked really worn down by Missouri's press. But the Golden Eagles rode McNeal who was hot.
What's Next: The Tigers advance to the Sweet 16 where they will play No. 2 Memphis, which handled No. 10 Maryland, 89-70. It will be a case of which team's press will be more effective. Both want to turn the other team over and create points. But Missouri's is a little more transition oriented. Memphis just smothers teams. One matchup to watch will be in the post between Missouri's DeMarre Carroll and Memphis' Robert Dozier.
