Big East Football Power Rankings after Week #7

With all three favored Big East teams winning last weekend and three more with a bye week, not much has changed within the conference from Power Rankings after Week #6. Teams and rankings are listed below and make sure to take a look at our Week 7 football recap. For more Big East football coverage be sure to check the Big East football standings & weekly Big East scores.

  1. Pittsburgh (4-1, 2-0): With a week off, we’ll see how Pittsburgh responds to being ranked and having everyone again patting them on the back with congratulations. They play at Navy on Saturday, and if they don’t think it’ll be a tough trip, all they have to do is ask their friends at Rutgers.
  2. Connecticut (5-1, 1-0): With this team hurting after the North Carolina loss, the Huskies had a week to get rest and re-focus. This weekend we get to see how quarterback Zach Frazer handles adversity- in a game the Huskies should win at Rutgers.
  3. South Florida (5-1 0-1): The Bulls got a bye at just the right time, as they were banged up mentally and physically after the Pitt game. With an improving Syracuse team coming to Tampa, South Florida needs a big win to get prepared for a tough second half schedule.
  4. Cincinnati (5-1, 1-0): The Bearcats continue to win despite their quarterback woes- beating Rutgers 13-10 Saturday. With a trip to UConn in two weeks Cincinnati needs Tony Pike back quickly- thirteen points won’t get the job done against anyone left on the schedule.
  5. West Virginia (4-2, 2-0): I know Pat White didn’t play last week, but this offense needs to get going- there is just too much talent to be this unproductive. Luckily the Mountaineers get a surprisingly bad Auburn team in two weeks- probably the only program in college football with as much as dysfunction as West Virginia.
  6. Louisville (3-2, 0-1): It wasn’t pretty in Memphis on Friday night, but a win is a win- especially on the road. Middle Tennessee State this weekend should provide a nice springboard into the meat of Big East play.
  7. Rutgers (1-5, 0-2): The window of opportunity is all but shut for the Scarlet Knights, as their offense was worse than ever at Cincinnati Saturday. The question is becoming when- not if- some of the younger players on the roster will get their shot, especially quarterback Dom Natale.
  8. Syracuse (1-5, 0-2): Syracuse continues to fight for their embattled, and soon to be former coach Greg Robinson. They will pull an upset by the end of the year- it just won’t be this week at South Florida.
