Rutgers 12 - UConn 10:Kordell Young rushed for a touchdown, and UConn kicker Tony Ciaravino missed three field goals- including a 42-yarder with under two minutes to go- as Rutgers survived at home, winning 12-10. On a day in which points were a premium, each team kicked a first half field goal, for a 3-3 halftime score. Rutgers added Young’s six yard run and a Blair Bines safety, to pad their lead to 12-3. But with less than 10 minutes to go, UConn quarterback Zach Frazer found red-shirt freshman Kashif Moore for a 47 yard touchdown pass, cutting the Rutgers lead to 12-10. The Huskies then made a stop defensively setting up their final drive, which was negated by a Martin Bedard offensive pass interference call. Ciaravino’s attempt hit the upright and Rutgers held on for victory. It was Rutgers first win of the season against an FBS opponent- improving their record to 2-5. The Huskies fell to 5-2 after their second straight road loss.
South Florida 45 - Syracuse 13:Matt Grothe threw for three touchdown passes and ran for another, as South Florida shook off a slow start, beating Syracuse 45-13 in Tampa. The play of the game came early in the third quarter, Syracuse with the ball and threatening. But Craig Marshall recovered an Orange fumble, setting up an A.J. Love touchdown reception, as the Bulls scored 24 unanswered second half points to seal the win. South Florida, which improved to 6-1 on the year, travels to Louisville this weekend, while Syracuse has a bye week. The Orange are 1-6 on the year.
Pittsburgh 42 - Navy 21:Running back LeSean McCoy was again outstanding- rushing for 156 yards and three touchdowns, as Pittsburgh beat Navy 42-21. McCoy a sophomore also added two receptions for 46 yards, as the Panthers completed their most convincing win of the year. Pittsburgh out-gained Navy 499 yards to 251, holding the Midshipmen 100 yards below their rushing average on the year. Pittsburgh will jump back into Big East play this weekend when they travel to Rutgers. Game-time is set for 3:30 p.m.
Louisville 42 - Middle Tennessee State 23:Louisville overcame a sloppy start- scoring 28 second half points, and cruising to a win at home. Running back Brock Bolen scored three touchdowns and freshman Victor Anderson added another, as the Cardinals improved to 4-2 on the year. Quarterback Hunter Cantwell struggled, throwing two first half interceptions, before recovering and leading the Cardinals to victory. After three weeks without a Big East game, the Cardinals get back in league play this weekend when they host South Florida. The game is at 3:30 p.m. and can be seen on ESPN Gameplan.
